Broken Reality

Vaporwave galore!

Found this game randomly on GOG and as someone who was very much into vaporwave at its peak, this game is a dream come true. Vaporwave seems to represent nostalgia for a time which you haven't lived (or at the time you were too young to comprehend it properly) - the visuals in this game certainly made me experience that again. At the same time, I relived the Tumblr glory days and reveled in the wonderful crystal worlds (Geocity ftw) <3 As for gameplay, everything is relatively straightforward. As you go along, you'll find objects that will help you solve puzzles or to get to certain places. I liked that the further you got, you still used most of your objects more or less regularly - you don't just stop using them because you found something "better". The story reveals itself little by little as you meet more characters and explore new areas, but I think it's best to just enjoy the atmosphere and have fun. Warning: for those prone to nausea from video games, be aware of this. I have not yet found a way to reduce this effect, and simply observe how I'm feeling and stop when I notice the nausea coming on. Regardless of that, fantastic game. Wholeheartedly recommended <3

Fascinating idea, game needs fine-tuning

As a few others have mentioned, this game can trigger extreme nausea (although I seem to have a predisposition to it). It made the game unplayable for me and had to refund. The controls were a bit wonky and it felt like you had to click an object several to pick it up/to activate it (like in the case of a light switch). I feel this contributed to the nausea, as well as turns that made me feel like I was on a wobbly boat. Reverse sea sickness? It's very unfortunate, as I love the idea of meandering about the threshold of consciousness and dreaming, and the graphics look beautiful in the trailer and the screenshots. With fine-tuning, I think this could be a very enjoyable game.
