Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

Masterpiece

Seven years after release, I finally purchased and played this; uhm game? No. It's art. Art of the highest order. Tragedy. Farce. Satirical. Parody. Drama. Socioeconomic. Perfection. I can't believe I am only now playing this. There was a time when I would've stated that Dragon Age Origins was my favorite cRPG of all time. I'm ashamed to even think back to that conclusion now. This game is brutal. Beautiful. Sad. With so much to say. The analogous political aspects are far reaching. And deep. Global capital demolishing fledgling nominally socialist states for the audacity to even attempt worker controlled means of production? It's got it in spades. The sad tragedy of those failed states looms large throughout the dystopian hellscape of this world. This game took one of my favorite quotes from Marx and beautifully packaged it into a masterpiece. "History does repeat itself. First as tragedy. Then as farce. " In the end, the looming shadow of international capital and it's proxy states working at their behest are everywhere in this game. Along with corrupt union "socialists" and the crushed dreams of its workers. Beautifully sad. 10 outta 10. And I ain't even finished playing.
