Along with Sea of Stars, this is the best pixel JRPG homage I've played in years. For decades, there were a number of lovely RPGMaker-style indies keeping alive the graphical feel and adding their own twist; among the best were Last Dream and Evoland 2. More recently, there have been bigger-budget releases like Octopath Traveler 1 and 2. What makes this game stand out is its ambition: it's bursting at the seams with huge maps, countless mechanics scavenged from previous FF games (quests; crafting; classes; "deals" akin to FFXII's bazaar goods; and more), and the enthusiasm is infectious.
