After some 20 hours of play, all I can say is wow! Finally, the great step forward in PC gaming. Runs extremely well on a 1070ti, which was a pleasant surprise. Gorgeous graphics. At last, a PC game that doesn't shy away from utilizing high end specs. Deep RPG customization. The possibilities are enormous and the play style differs wildly. Immersive beyond belief. Each mission takes you in and leaves you breathless. Diverse approaches to many missions. Direct, stealth, brute force, betrayal, unexpected allegiances and more (not enough skill to hack the door? How about going through the roof!) Fun fun fun! Combat is fun. Driving around is fun. Doing missions is fun. The game we have been waiting for.
The mechanics are fun. Combines a bit of strategy and action well. But, the game is horribly optimized and slows down to a halt when there's smoke and fire. As it is one of the core skills of one of the characters, this is a game breaker. Lastly, the game is disgustingly sexist. All male characters are dumb, ugly and weak. The female ones belittle them constantly and portray them as evil.
Fast paced and fun. But, requires fast reflexes that I don't have. Couldn't get past level 2 even though I tried both gamepad, mouse+keyboard and various play styles (rampage, tactical human shield and 2+ kill combos) with different pathings. Probably died 30 times before I gave up.
The menu seems cute enough to lure you in. Problem is, I lost fairly quickly (4th round) although I read everything the game let me. No idea what I did wrong and I don't think it is a feasible design to brute force the gameplay. The art style is nice, mostly fog to cover the lack of anything on the screen. Would work well had the gameplay been fun.
The game left me with great memories in my early childhood. It was a lot of fun to play both online and offline. From the non-orthodox things such as rampant hackers to the simple click fest of leveling up a new char. There aren't many games that started off a genre like this and it certainly is an everlasting gem in the history of gaming. The gameplay is simple and fun. It takes time to master if you do it alone. That being said, the company has become a taint in the gaming community with their disgusting approach to business and fans. So much so, that this game certainly doesn't merit such a high price tag as 10$.
As a guy who grew up through the late 80s and 90s with these types of games, I'm absolutely amazed at how great this title is. The flow is extremely fluid. Unlike other modern 90s shooters, there are no hiccups in the battles here. They are as smooth as butter blending an excellent mix between challenging but not too much (played on normal). What I found greatly entertaining with Project Warlock is that it kept all the good aspects of the old shooters, combined some newer elements such as skills and shed the rough edges modern 90s have of making it too hardcore. Another thing I liked are the different weapons that I found myself switching between. With the old titles, I would have a linear list of weapons I'd use, according to how much ammo I had. Here, though, I enjoyed switching around between them regardless of ammo. Obviously, some were more efficient than others in certain combat situations but they overlapped - and it didn't bore me to use any. Lastly, the different maps and monsters are great and varied. It was a nice surprise to see unique enemies throughout chapters and between them. They had different abilities and weaknesses that were fun to learn as I played through the levels. Bottom line - Highly recommended for shooter fans, old and new.
A great scenic/exploration game but horrible stealth/combat. The open world is impeccable Throughout the game, there are endless scenic areas that leave you wanting for more. This makes exploration rewarding on its own if it wasn't for the interesting progression system. The progression system is largely based on discovering items and upgrades. Combined with a unique top down style gaming and art, exploring the world is amazing. There is no stealth Unlike some reviewers, there is no stealth in the game. The game introduces hiding spots but they don't always work. You get an invisible spell that works for 3 seconds unless you've already been seen, then it doesn't work at all(even if you break LOS). Complexes you want to stealth through have dozens of guards. If you're seen, unless he's alone, you're almost surely dead. You cannot get out of combat unless you leave the zone or die. The only option you have is to kill a guard, steal his outfit and wear it as a disguise that grants you safe passage throughout the complex. No trial and error Loading times are horrendous. Bugs bugs bugs Because actions for "stealth" and exploration, backstab, choke(stun) and grab ledge are combined with other actions, attack, attack and jump respectively, you'll often die. To backstab and choke you need to be behind an unsuspecting enemy but, the protagonist will randomly choose to attack (and subsequently kill you because of a myriad of guards raining down on you) or jump, instead of grabbing a ledge, to your death. The game advises to run from combat when needed but the sprint button becomes unusuable for a second after you jump onto a ledge/walk over a rail/touch a pebble. Combined with 100% ranged accuracy from guards, extreme hearing (run across town, hide in smoke, they come straight to you), if you need to run it most likely means you're dead. Attacks 100% stun for a moment. Only against you. These features, no combat/stealth and bugs render this game broken. Wait for 2.0.
