After several hours of troubleshooting and reading other people's posts with similar issues, I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible to play this game with a DS4 controller without it forcing you to play multiplayer mode. Even getting the DS4 controller to work at all is pretty touch and go. I've never had this issue with any other game in the past. The controller works fine and so does the connection and software that enables its use. It seems to be a specific and strange incomparability with the game. I tested the same controller setup with another GOG game with absolutely zero issue. I assume that if you have an xbox controller it's not as bad. but I couldn't say for certain. However, this game was definitely designed with a controller in mind and is frankly near unplayable without. I feel bad for giving it such a low score based off of a technical issue especially because it's an issue that won't pertain to everyone, but at the same time there's no reason for this game to have such a problem.
