Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition

Good Action, Disappointing Plot

Good clean mindless fun. The zombie killing is fun, thouigh i feel many of the weapons degrade far too quickly. Yes, you can damage a crowbar by hitting something with it. Is it going to materailly affect your ability to strike things with a heavy blunt object? ...No. Oh, look, a climbing pick! These things are designed to be struck against rock and to support five times the climber's own weight. Pickaxes? Same deal. Human bone is just not that tough compared to rock or concrete...Let's not mention the various hammers. I have hammers. I have hammers i use to break rock. The maintenance procedure for them is to wipe the rock dust off. My firearms require far more maintenance than any of my landscaping tools. And yet in game...firearms are maintenance free. Crowbars break. It's not an RPG - there are no choices to make in game, there's no consequences for your actions, and everyone can unlock every skill in every tree. And disappointingly, even the things you're scripted to do make absolutely no difference in the game. At one point you pocket a Antizen vial...and it never comes up again. Ever. Even when it would have been an excellent story element to produce and go ha-hah! Which was remarkably disappointing to me. Further, the game does not care about your play or tactics. I say this because, at least in the base game, every time you get into a boss fight, with the health bars and everything - All of your gear is gone. Everything you've accumulated is gone. Your weapons are gone. And you have to fight with your bare hands and whatever you can scrounge from the environment. And the climactic fight against the bad guy? Quick time event. Disappointing. And the keys aren't even relevant. I actually went up there with the bad guy's own gun that I'd found intending to kill him with it...no dice. QTE.
