I see this rash of recent positive reviews and I have to come on here and set the record straight. This is not a good game. It starts off fun and quickly starts to go downhill until it straight up dives off a cliff. Horrible combat mechanics. AI that makes Aliens: Colonial Marines look top notch. But worse than all of this, and what absolutely should not be allowed to become the norm and why you should not buy this game is the writing. Oh the writing.... It's bad guys. Really bad. There was clearly more focus on progressivism than humor or wit. The player is constantly bashed over the head with political nonsense. Every woman is a badass and every man is incompetent or corrupt (usually both). The nonstop theme, and I'm not oversimplifying here, is "corporations bad". The game repeats this formula ad nauseum for each "new" world the player discovers. And as far as RPG's go, we're talking KOTOR levels of good vs bad "choices", but where KOTOR actually made you care about the characters with talented writing and voice acting... well Outerworlds screws that up too. All the companions are basically the same and you end up not caring at all about any of them. I went from skipping cutscenes as fast as the game would let me to flat out quitting about 2/3's through. I went on youtube and looked up the endings and they were as unfulfilling as the game. The sad thing is I like a lot of the other stuff Obsidian has done. Just not this one. This may in fact be the biggest disappointment of my gaming career. Outerworlds is trash. Skip it and play something (hell anything) else.
