The game is mildly interesting and does the job of getting you hooked later on. It also get's difficult to the point where, I think, very few people can finish it without a walkthrough, which is exactly what I did beginning with The Station Process (near end game) and basically ending shortly after with me just reading the rest of the plot on wikipedia. Spoilers ahead: The story gets more and more interesting, until it loses track with the story you as a player is expecting. It is instead a sad "real-life" story about an accident where you basically have been playing as the (very) bad guy. I cannot recommend this game, it is hugely overrated IMHO.
Red Faction 2 is nowhere near as good as the original Red Faction. It is however an okay FPS with very good mechanics, i.e. movement and shooting. Graphics and mechanics reminds me of Command & Conquer Renegade. It is prudent as relaxation, it is not interesting enough so that you have to beat it as fast as possible and it can be enjoyed enough so that you don't leave it completely.
Red Faction is up there with the original Half-Life and easily beats the add-ons made for Half-Life such as Blue Shift. For better or worse, the type of story in the original Red Faction does no longer show up in video games. It is simply about a group of people working in a mine on Mars under slave like conditions until they have enough, i.e. the story is very black and white with a bad guy you have to take out. Red Faction is a solid FPS with vehicles, snipers and destructable walls. The game was ahead of it's time and altough it didn't go completely under the radar when released, it is IMHO still vastly underrated. It is good fun. I encountered one game breaking bug in which I could not interact with a vehicle. The solution could be found on google. Otherwise the game ran flawless without any mods.
