It's odd to be playing a brand new expansion to Balder's Gate. Having recently finished the game (having started way back when it released) I must say that I'm enjoying the expansion thus far. The story is interesting and sets off at pace. New UI and some graphical tweaks make the game infinitely more playable. and the quest log is a welcome update. I have some reservations about how linear it is in the beginning, but as someone that enjoyed the more 'nature' vibe of the first game, as opposed to the urban landscape of the second, it's been an interesting adventure thus far. And the most welcome edition is 'story mode'. Although the game snob in me cries out blasphemy, I've struggled with the 2nd edition rules of this series for almost two decades, halting my progress and stalling some of my fun. Now I can enjoy the writing and setting with none of the hassle. Yes it does make it more like a latter day Bioware game but I finally get to fully enjoy the game without felling like I'm done something wrong. Strong 8/10. What other 18 year old game has a better brand new expansion?
