This is just the best game for me. It fits my personality to a tee. If you have a need to make things organized while thinking of ways to overcome challenges, ths is the game for you. It won't always be easy, but it is so worth it. Plus the game is so easily modded.
Hello all! I remember playing this game before GOG was a thing. This game is history as it is before RTS games were a thing. It pioneered the field. That said there are a lot of rough edges and a lot has been learned. I would say this is a great game to really learn how it all started but if you are expecting a really polished modern game then this will not be for you. Also, the AI is rudimentary and will not be much of a challenge. This game was a blast when you had friends to play it with though. So if you and some friends want to play this against each other and see where it all started you will love this game. If you want a challenging game with fiendish AI, then look elsewhere.
I've spent a lot of time playing this game. There is so much potential with much of it unlocked. I'd say the base game is a 3 or 4 with mods. The developer put in at least 2 ways to do everything and often a third way with keyboard shortcuts. In many ways this is a rogue like town builder in 3 dimensions. you get a number of gnomes at the start and you try and get them to survive. Now you have to set up food production, weapon production, mine for minerals, and attract other kingdom ambassadors so you can bring in their traders. But the more you put in the greater your town value, the more gnomes will come, but the harder and more numerous the opponents. You have a number of different zones that you can set up including dining, main hall, dormatory, workshops, and personal quarters. Each area may require different items to make. The first big hurdle is getting a bone needle. It becomes a big chain with each workshop you set up leading to the next. One of the nice things about this game is that the difficulty is customizable. If you want a peaceful game you can set it up. If you want a game where each wave of opponents are tougher you can. If you want to wall yourself in so that no enemies can get to you, you can. If you want to set up long hallways of traps and watch as the goblins get dropped or mushed. There is very little hand holding and almost no in game text about what does what. Wiki is the only way to really know. Now where this game really shines is mods. In the short time this game this game was popular and listed as one of the very best upcoming game a lot of mods were created. Like I said, this game had huge potential. Tacyn is my favorite mod as he pulled many of the mods together and made them play nice together. Based on a fun concept with complex interactions and challenge this gets a 4. If you base it on unrealized potential and being hard to use, then a 2 rating.
Hello all, Railroad Tycoon 3 was my second game in this series that I played after the original railroad tycoon. I found a lot to love about this game. The graphics when I got this were pretty darn good for a simulation game. I found the system they put in place for movement of good and price relationships to be well realized. I loved the day/night cycle as well as the weather and how it was implemented. I really like industry in this game and how it works with the production of goods over time. I also liked the models of the cars and engines. I loved how there are four different models for cars depending on the time period, this also changes the weight of the cars and the performance of the engines. I also really loved the mechanics behind station wars. You run tracks into the enemy station and start a rate war. Who can service the station best will win the station. The pretty good was the campaign and the add on that I got for the game. I got most of the way through the game before blowing my old computer . It took me another 5 years before I got a computer and could finish the game. I had lost the momentum and the game no longer looked as great but it was good enough that I finally did finish it. I would say the campaign was pretty standard, you start fresh in each area with a company. That was pretty well realized. One thing I found that I did not like is in the last half dozen missions or so you no longer had any competition in the campaign. I also really missed the random map generator like in the original. The poor was some questionable design decisions for modern engines. They created an acceleration of instant that pretty much made the trains go full speed as soon as they left the station, pretty unbalanced. That being stated this game is pretty much the very best business/railroad simulator in the market. I've yet to find anything that compares.
I've played the complete Tropico 4 a lot. This does not look like it contains Modern Times. If it does, add a star. I must say that the campaigns are not difficult. In sandbox mode you can make the game much more difficult. I love bulding in this game. There is just so much to do with everything installed. There is not much missing. You can build just about anything. I would guess that this is one of the best all time city builder games. You can listen to the thoughts of every citizen, bribe anyone, arrest people, do anything you want. You just have to watch out for the consequences.
