Dino Crisis

Great Old School Survival Horror

I grew up playing the PS1 era RE games and it was the first series I truly fell in love with. I have played those games a lot and was looking for something new (to me) that would scratch that same itch Dino Crisis has all the hallmarks of the survival horror genre and does them incredibly well. The puzzles are challenging but always solvable. The voice acting is great for the time period. Regina is such a sassy and iconic character The enemy variety is a bit limited. The main enemy you'll encounter is the raptor. I was shocked at how touch they are and how much damage they do. They can throw you around like a ragdoll and leave you limping and bleeding (losing health) if they don't kill you outright. And that's the first enemy you encounter in the game! I played on Normal difficulty and ammo and healing items are incredibly sparse. It's absolutely best to run past enemies rather than shoot them, but the narrow hallways make this a truly tense experience every time. I never became overpowered or felt I had health or ammo to spare, even in the late game This is balanced out nicely by the fact you can save an unlimited amount. No ink ribbon type items. You get the option to save every time you leave a save room. Plus this version of the game gives you 30 continues which I found to be an ample amount I beat the game in just over 8 hours of play time. It was paced well the whole way through. It never feels like the game is padding out playtime. Plus towards the end, I had a hard time putting the game down because you have all these satisfying puzzles and tasks to do and I always wanted to get just a little farther, then a little more As for my criticisms, the menu is clunky. It just isn't laid out well. Resident Evil had such a simple and easy to use system. This menu feels like a downgrade for sure. There is a lack of enemy variety. And since you spend most of your time in grey laboraties, the atmosphere can be a bit bland Overall though, I love this game!
