It is supposed to be a turn-based, classic style Roguelike, in reality is a high octane boomer-shooter. There are no words to describe how fluid the action of this game is, all the weapons feel powerful, each level-up upgrade marks a difference in power and playstyle, and the same applies to each class. You are free to play it slowly like a fine game of chess, but are totally encouraged to act fast in order to improve your immersion and experience. Many builds encourage you to play boldly in order to hit hard, others help you to quietly guide your enemies into a fatal trap, others help you to blow your enemies head from a different room, others help you to flank them while keeping yourself safe behind covers. Every approach is valid, every approach has the potential to destroy everything in your path, but they also have the power, they definitely have the numbers, and you are veeery easy to kill. The aim, dodge and damage system of this game is so elegant that at every moment of the game you know exactly when is the best moment to pull the trigger, when is wiser to seek a cover, the best moment to escape, or quite literally charge into your enemy's face. A recommendation on my part would be to change the voice acting profanity to "Clean", "Serious", or "Serious/Clean". The default voice acting feels waaaaay to cheesy, it feels out of place with the aesthetic of the game, and in comparison with voice actors of the boomer shoote protagonists from whom this game took inspiration (Duke or Caleb), the voice actor doesn't manage to create an interesting personality. I would even recommend to disable the music volume (At least on the early levels, later in the game it gets better)

It's an interesting premise. In any SimCity you usually would hoard money to get more expensive buildings and spam them all over the map. This is a challenge that you must overcome in Urbek. In Urbek, you need to place your building in specific patterns to create a synergy between them. If a specific building receives all necessary resources and synergies from the nearby buildings, it will have a chance to automatically upgrade. because you can't build a fully developed one on your own. If you keep on building synergies you can turn your small houses into skyscrapers, using relatively the same area. It has a lot of charm, it takes a lot of inspiration from Latin American elements (mainly Chile, if fact, almost every building screams Chile) that separates it from other games of it's genre. As a puzzle lover I can't recommend it enough. It's really worth it even at full price.
Ok, they wanted to release this wonderfull game in my favorite platform. That is absolutely fantastic. I guess they also remembered that this is a platform well known because the lack of DRM in their games an is also the main reason that is my favorite right? Right? I would definitely put 0 stars if the system allowed me.
I know pretty well that the game is still not finished, and yet for the price they ask, this game delivers plenty hours of enjoyment. Is a fun game with simple to understand mechanics, a single game can be a few minutes long to half an hour. The style and music is quite relaxing and beautiful.
If I could review this game with a 4.9/5 , I would. The game itself is as perfect as it was 17 years ago, but as you could have read by the other reviewers, you first must know what exactly are you buying. This game is *OLD* and has some serious problems with modern machines that can be solved thanks to community efforts. But if you are a guy like me that for years had wanted to play this specific version of the game (previously only available in phisical form) this is the easiest way to get the game. I have plenty of old games that can't run in modern machines but are still awesome games. I am fully aware that Konami put zero effort re-relasing this game, but am really thankful to the guys that convinced them to release this Masterpiece here, DRM-free.
This game took me for surprise because at first I didn't knew that it was a love letter to the Genesis, but after watching a random review on the internet talking about a "Classic Sonic better than Sonic 3 & Knuckles", my favorite Sonic game/s (This was before Sonic Mania was a thing, even tho I still haven't played that game), I knew that I had to play it. This is not a review, this only open invitation to have a good time with a solid game and excellent interpretation of the games in the Genesis days. The developers are currently working on the sequel and a free demo is available for those that want to join the club of Freedom Planet lovers.
