The early game (first 50 seasons) is hard, it can be very hard. Don't be discouraged, your population will overcome it (it's the point of the game). Worth noting that the game now is easier than when it was first released, double droubts which probably killed a lot of people playing 2 years ago are no longer a thing after a balancing patch. ___________________________ I genuinely am enjoying this game, I have played the survival mode for around 300 seasons (though aside from research it's basically auto pilot at this point). In fact I think this game pretty much seemed a little like I couldn't loose without trying from maybe the 100th season if your unlucky with radiation, earlier if you lucky. I am going to play the campaign now that I have a good grip on the game, but I am not sure I will play it again after that. It's 100% worth the discounted price during sales, honestly at £26 full price it's still worth while, baring in mind I will probably have something between 300-400 hrs by the time I am done, those who enjoy the game enough to start over on all sorts of different maps and set ups will easily be able to reach 1000 hours.
I really enjoyed this game overall, it has an awful lot going for it and is well worth a purchace. Just a shame that some units you don't really get to build around. There are a couple of negetives, but they are small enough that I am not sure they are worth singling out. I am not even sure it there is a "best" when it comes to building your army. I have completed this twice, with vastly different units, I was equaly as capable both times, with the only difference being I struggled a bit more with resources on the 1st run (though market luck could have played a small part there). If you are even semi interested in this game I think it's an auto buy.
This game is remarkably similar to 1849, I have no idea if they are made by the same people, but they have an astonishing amount in common. Which is probably why I found both of them to be boring. Thats not to say they are bad games, I will leave that to the reviewers who played it more, it just mean that I wont be playing this game long enough to be one of those reviewers.
Contrary to the others writing reviews actually enjoyed this game. The start of the game is really rough, you can't please everyone, infact you should probably not please many while your buiulding resources or you will go bankrupt and game over. However make it past that and the game becomes more about strategy, when to use your agents, when to give money or suplies, when to use the bank/merchents, and finally when to deny a request. There is a review that says they played through 2 sessions in 12 hours, I did 1 in 17, not sure how they did 2 in less, though I was taking my time to enjoy the game. **SPOILERS** You get 3 agents eventually, and you don't have to sell your 13 year old daughter.
This game is interesting, simple, and relitivly chill. It starts off well enough, a balance between work, trainingand fighting. However late game (i'll not say when to avoid spoilers), just gets really really grindy, gaining skills is slow and gets tough when thery are higher due to the amount you loose each day. It was a sudden spike too and for me, this game just got super boring after this point.
