It's been a while since the last time I was so disapointed by a game,,, Everyone talked about little nightmares and said that it was amazIng. I love horror in general and I started trying horror games and I finaly decided to play it and wow, I'm sad, A waste of time and money. Great atmosphere, absolutly terrible, god awful, pathetic, chietas gameplay. I was stuck in a room with a repetitive anoying sound effect because the game sometimes doesn't do what it is designed to do and you think "ok so it's something else" than 20 minutes later you just go watch a playtrough and lose any kind of involvment. I am tired of dying because I didn't get what the devs were asking of me as I cannot read their god damn minds. I died because I wanted to run when the devs decided it was sneaking time. I died because I tried to sneak when it's running time whitout any special cues. I died again and again in a locked room because there is nothing that indicated what I needed to do. When I don't die I don't have fun either, everything is scripted and boring, you do EXACTLY what the devs want and that is it. This game might as well play itself or be a rythm game,,, What a god damn pile
How did this happen. Put aside the bugs. Put aside the performance problems. The gameplay is so poor, upgrades are useless and not interesting to obtain... Driving is hell, musics are suprisingly forgetable. I waited for this game for so long, I was promised an RPG and I got this...
I tried to like this game I really did but it's just bad, really bad. Graphics : It's looks pretty bad but trully this is not even a problem. Exploration part : Boring, there is no fast travel, all places look the same, it's monotunous, ok whatever Story : Generic but that's also not the troublesome part Dialogues : Made me laugh how badly they are written but yeah, I can live with that Quests : Repetitive and basic to say the least but yet again that wouldn't bother me too much Audio and music : Main menu song is cool, I think I heard some notes somewhere but nothing else. Menus : A hell to navigate, god you can't even equipe items from your inventory (you have to go to equipement ://////) Quality of life features : None really everything is very hard to accomplish even shopping isn't all that easy as it should be. Gameplay : Well here we are, the part that made me ignore the rest of this game's problem and push forward and... no, it's not good, correct at best, if the rest of the game wasn't terrible perhaps this "ok" gameplay would be enough for me to play it but as I said the rest of DDDA really feels like a game of an inde company that decided to do something way too big for their first title. Some attacks are pretty much required to play the game, your stamina doesn't have a regen boost when you are out of combat and not moving, too many stun attacks are used by common enemies wich will be the main reason of death for most players (full life, get stuned, get ganged, die, love the game cause you didn't save after walking for 30 minutes [cause no fast travel]), platform sequences in a game that shouldn't have them because it's just not made for it, pawns having a script to run in the wrong direction and die, etc... DDDA has a feeling of a game that I should love but everything I love is ruined by terrible general design.
Got it for free by GOG and what a gift it was. I don't expect much from horror games but SOMA was one of the best video game experience I had in a long time. -The controls feels like you are playing in VR, it's very natural you can pick up items, rotate them, open lockers by dragging the door with your mouse, lean left and right... -The athomosphere is amazing thanks to the great "SF" sound design and environments as well as the fascinating world setup. -The story brings a lot of suddle and obvious philosophical questions about identity, humanity, AI, some on those questions really ad to the scare part of the game. -The adventure it's self is fun and the reason why you go from one place to another doesn't feel forced (no stupid justifcation on why you need to go there [at least not too stupid]). -And the ending makes me feel weird in a good way. In short SOMA was amazing, I had a lot of fun playing, the story is great and it's scary in every way.
