This game was ahead of its time by a hefty margin! Key elements stand out: - old school raw grit void of any modern stupidy - sandbox'y freedom - great depth of customisation & gameplay choices - intricate mechanics & systems like combat, magic, buildings & upgrades, items and unit progression - outstanding vastness of replaybility - engaging lore and sense of adventure This is a mix of RTS and RPG genres primarily. On top, it's also blended with a questing/adventure genre elements combined with 4x strategy - like lore exposition, diplomacy and choices on the world map actions - typical sandbox freedom of when & what areas to tackle combined with item shops and mercenary camps. There are also quests that cover the RPG elements. So all in all - it blends very tightly and cohesively together like no other game present on the market (to my knowledge). This game seems to have been serving a profound influence on Warcraft 3 and similar. One additional thing, the level of old school grit, spiky weapons, raw 80's fantasy candind action supplemented by gruesome art and voice acting, the game stands out to be one of a kind experience! Can't say good words enough! P.s. on technical side, the game can be hard to understand given there is no log of combat events so post-mortem actions reviews are not existent - you gotta learn as you go and persevere as the game can be challenging!
