This game ranks high on my list of best RPGs! It is consise, doesn't hold your hand at all, beats you down to the dirt, but also raises you up when you learn the tricks of it. The story is great, even with the lacking content of the later chapters. The factions are awesome (New Camp is best camp) and the atmosphere is really something else. Gothic 2 has the mechanics and the world building, but Gothic 1 has the best atmosphere, charm and story. Just a blast from start to finish!
Gothic 2 really is a classic, and deserves a top spot among RPGs. While not as neat in its story execution as Gothic 1, the improvements in mechanics, world and side-quests makes Gothic 2 an absolute marvel and a joy to play. The returning characters also makes the game a real treat for anyone who's played Gothic 1. Replayability is much better than in Gothic 1, as the three factions have more distinct features and quests. Gothic 1 still holds the throne of the three games in the series, but it is close!
