I took a chance on this title, having never heard of it. I am so glad I did. Some of the most beautiful, clever and simple-yet-challenging platform games I've seen. The environments are beautiful and the whole mechanics of light and dark, shadow and mirrors, etc are used to very creative effect. Levels are challenging but short enough that it's not frustrating to try again. In a list of greatest platformers of all time, I'd say Candleman gets a spot. A very unique game which is definitely worth being enjoyed.
Visually this game is beautiful and I love the character and world design. It's colourful and the world is full of alien foliage and colour and detail. I like that the level design guides you, and makes it clear where you need to go. After playing No Man's Sky and other open-world games it's refreshing to have a simple game where you know where to go, and have a clear goal! The voice acting is really nice and I like how chatty the characters are throughout the game, adding character and drama as you play. The gameplay is simple. There could have been a choice to have different weapons, moves and tools but in its simplicty it has its charm. I picked this up on sale and really enjoyed it. This to me is the spirit of a good "Nintendo game" and it's pleasant and colourful in a way that Super Mario Sunshine was for instanc0e, or it reminds me of a DoubleFine title like Psychonauts in its simple easy gameplay. It's nice, simple and light. And again the graphics are beautiful! The gunk itself is cool visually. I'd like to see more games like this. Not trying to be the biggest epic in the world and I would welcome a sequel.
This game starts with an animated title and scene that is so beautiful, it looks like Studio Ghibli. And then it transitions....and you realize you're looking at gameplay! It's just so nice throughout the entire game. Even on my 2013 Macbook I was amazed. Absolutely the most beautiful side-scroller I've played. It plays with zooming in, zooming out as well to cool effect. The actual gameplay and mechanics of this work well too, with the character learning new abilities as to not overhwelm the player. The little hooded person bounds lightly with a good "feel" when moving. The soundtrack is perfect, and there are some really "wow" moments just looking at the environments. That little character is instantly likeable as well. Great game! And I don't want to spoil anything but the last level brings the creativity to a new level with some really inventive and creative gameplay. Nintendo, hire this team!
