If you liked it when you played it when you were younger, the port hasn't changed much if anything. I was still able to use an Xbox controller just fine. I don't know how nice an experience it would be trying to use just mouse and keyboard, though - the camera controls show their age, even with a controller. One tip - try to do the final boss between level 36 and 40 or so, as it was too easy with a team at 46, but I did do Sinchon bot leveling early on.
