Encased: A Sci-Fi Post-Apocalyptic RPG

The cRPG i was hoping for!

I stumbled over this game some time ago, followed how it progressed, and though it appealed to me the moment i first learned about it, i admit i was more and more hyped with every piece of info that was released. Buying this game the moment it went live is something i rarely do, but i did, and being in this game for some time now, i can't express enough how excited i am to see that the hopes i had in this game was more than justified: the developers just delivered! In my opinion, this game - so far - is in one league with D:OS and AtomRPG, so if you liked these games, you're not doing anything wrong here. Keep in mind that if you're, like me, preferring playing games with a controller, there is no gamepad support at the moment, but according to the developers will be added soon in an upcoming patch. In short: This is a masterpiece. Side note: Reading these reviews from people complaining about the dlc offered before the final release was published is more than frustrating...the developers clarified that several times in the forums that this was related to Kickstarter, so downvoting the game because of this is a shame. Furthermore, this has nothing to do with the quality of the game, so complain in the forums if you must. I strongly suggest ignoring these reviews.

Fantastic game

Just finished my 25 hours walkthrough of this game, and i can only say that I'm full of praise. To me, everything felt in the right spot, the a bit creepy, melancholic atmosphere, the beautiful art style, the controls, the level design. I bought this game when it became available on gog without knowing too much about, just watched a short movie of it before. One thing you should know when you are interested in this game is that yes, it is challenging. But, and that's the important thing: it is fair. Let me start from the beginning. The game starts off quite easily, it gives you time to get used to the basic movements and how to fight. Fighting - as a side note - is not the main focus of the game. In fact, most fights can be avoided (of course that does not count for the boss fights). The main focus is platforming, and you'll get an idea about what's in store for you when you find the first Void Entrance. You can see Voids as parcour levels where you need to jump and wall run and time and dash your way from start to finish, getting a health crystal as a reward. These Voids have difficulties from 1 to 5: 1 and 2 generally quite easy, 3 giving you a bit more of a challenge and 4 and 5 can be extremely difficult. Good news is, they are mostly optional, though you're strongly encouraged to beat some of them, it might prove useful during boss fights. The good news is that everything is fair, if you figure out how to get from A to B failing several times and being patient, you'll finally master it (side note: if you find things that let you dash farther or jump higher, get them. And explore. Things will become easier then, trust me here). Yes, i could add minor things that i found could have been a bit better. Save points, for example, could have been more frequent. But that's maybe just my personal taste. In the end, this was an extremely fun and rewarding experience, a fantastic job from the developers!

Loved it!

What a cute adventure that (for me) appeared completely by surprise! Though i regularly check for announcements here on gog, i somehow almost missed this one, so that's the reason i use this chance to give my impressions about it. I'll keep it short. First, though i generally prefer adventures with a more "realistic" art style, it took me just a few minutes to love it. Second, (english) voice acting was brilliant and the german translation was very well done. Application Systems Heidelberg made a great job here. Third, the puzzles start out to be easy, but become quite challenging sometimes. I have to admit checking out a walkthrough once, only to find myself thinking "yeah, think a minute longer, mate". In other words, you'll have one or two nuts to crack, but it'll be fair all the time. Fourth, the story is entertaining, it made my smile and even laugh sometimes. I whole heartedly recommend this game to my fellow adventure fans and wish the developers and publisher success it deserves. I'm definitely looking forward to your next project.
