I enjoy point n click adventures and Syberia just stuck out to me and drew me in. Playing it for the first time, I've got mostly positive things to say about it, and some critical negatives. Looks great, the pre-rendered backgrounds, cutscenes, scenes really hold up. The artist put a lot of work into the environments and it shows with lots of connecting scenes when you go through places to places. Plot is intriguing, you're a lawyer sent to seal the deal on a factory, when suddenly the owner dies and just before you can get this job over with, you find out they have an heir and it's your quest to go find them by going...To Syberia. Music is nice. You can run by double clicking a location, which is quite nice actually. Voice work is pretty fine. Even with some annoying characters The puzzles I've encountered thus far are logical and makes sense, none of the crazy absurb moon logic solutions like say monkey island. Now for the negatives and I really would have liked to not have to rag on the game but it must be said. Interaction ui is poor. No text or highlight to let you know you can interact with things, only the cursor changing shapes and such. normally this should be fine, but I was streaming this game in window mode which has my actual cursor blocking the ingame cursor. This sucks because I slid past items I should have normally seen. regardless it could be better. Puzzle solutions blend into the background too well. with the above problem, it makes interactables easy to glance over. No examine button, it's weird that it doesn't have one because it may have helped with either finding things I can interact with and/or given me a hint on what to do for some puzzles. No chat/quest logs to double check information you have talked about with npcs. I forgot about some detail and couldn't ask for the information again. no auto save, my game crashed and I forgot this is one of those old games where you need to save every so often. Itsa nice game, try it out
An open world fishing puzzle horror mystery game where you try to find out what happened that lead to your crash. Game is enjoyable. I like the sailing, the fishing and collecting to fish your fish log, the ship upgrades, the inventory management, the story is engaging even if I figured out what the deal is early on. I do like the design and progression in the game for the most part. It's worth a playthrough. I can see why people enjoy it. Con ares the controller ui could use some work, some ingame mechanics could be more clear like when a puzzle just wants you to get 2 weird fishes to place in and not specifically a 5x5 size, the boat steering could be more responsive, I don't like how you can't have a trowl and all the other fishing gear with you, you have to keep switching them out if you want to catch specific fishes. The endings are kind of mid, one kind of sucks in my opinion and the other better. I don't have the DLC and can't comment on it.
I liked Sanitarium and it's a pretty good game worth getting especially at the price GOG puts it at over the steam copy. Now there are a couple of annoyance I had with the game such as the puzzles get weaker after the halfway point and some of them are kind of cheap with the difficulty of not solving being that you just didn't have all the info needed to solve it, and in some chapters you have really brain dead puzzles such as get key to open lock to get something to open another lock but that only happens a few times. Also the maps in each chapter seem to get progressively smaller and smaller as you play on which is disappointing because exploration was one of the games interesting aspects. Now the story and voicing acting is great and the dialogue sometimes comes off really funny when they were read but the story is indeed the best part of the game. While I did think the puzzles aren't amazing they are adequate and not to the point you'd really need a walkthrough for it. Overall Sanitarium is still worth playing and experiencing through so get your copy today or if you're too cheap to get good game(shame on you) then you can always watch wiz hitman's duo commentary on the entire game on youtube.
Just read the blogpost at lazyworkcreations.wordpress You want to know why this game is free? Because it's a piece of crap that's why and GOG is nice enough to not make us pay for it. This game is horrible; the pathfinding sucks, the puzzles don't "exist"(They're not puzzles), the NPCs are stupid and they get in the way. The only remotely good things about this game is the way it looks and it's short, other than that the game sounds horrible and the story I couldn't care after playing through this horribly programmed "Game"
