The DLC takes place outside the main open world sandbox and is essentially a series of missions similar to the tutorial scenarios of the base game, just more complex, with a hub area added in for a bit of continuity in between. The first few missions were ok, but not great. Further in was more of the same with ramped up difficulty. I ended up missing the sandbox very quickly.
