Divinity: Original Sin Classic

A True Gift to Lovers of Tabletop CRPGs

D:OS is clearly a labor of love. The areas are presented beautifully. It has an open progression scheme that does not box you into a fixed 'class'. The word 'extensive' understates the addictive, tantalizing crafting system that amply rewards exploration and interactivity. The turn-based combat combining player actions with the environment produces a truly dynamic matrix of possibilities. No two encounters have ever felt the same. Include a friend in co-op, and you have an RPG that will provide hundreds of hours of fun and surprises. The main story retains Larian's style of mixing moments of gravity and humor, at times poking fun at certain RPG tropes. Even if the style does not suit everyone, one would be hard pressed to argue that it lacks wit, intelligence or depth. Finally, the fact that they have given us a toolset designed with players in mind, makes this the dawn of a new era for lovers of the classic RPG. No game is without some blemishes, and in its current state D:OS is no exception. The implementation of dialogue in co-op could be more interactive and given a clearer presentation. It is best when in the same room with the person or playing over voice chat. While crafting is rich and rewarding, the inventory system can be tedious to organize. Larian intends to continue working on the game and I expect them to polish these shortcomings but none of them detracts enough to significantly affect my enjoyment.
