Arx Fatalis

Diamond in the Rough

The game is good and has a lot of good sides but the problem is this is riddled with bugs. Three in particular stand out: Random crashes unless compatibility mode is run which disables widescreen resolutions, long loading times with no fix and textures disappearing on load making me have to try again. Can't grade the game down too much because of it because it is amazing when it works but buyer beware.

Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition

The best game of the '90's

Ah Duke Nukem, this is a game with many memories. This is a game that did so much for first-person shooter genre and was a blast to play. Back in the day it was compared to Doom and even is done so today with good reasons. Graphics: The game doesn't look special by any standards with the graphics for now-a-days. Back in the day however they were top notch and they have aged well. The games engine (called build) uses a technique known as 2.5D rendering. The idea is everything looks 3d but is actually modeled and displayed in 2d so you get an awesome looking game that has a lot of limitations but still is amazing to look at. You can make this look as good as a 2000 or 2002 game by downloading the High Resolution Pack. Story: Aliens have taken over the world and shot up Dukes ride and now it's time to kick alien butt! This is the great thing about this game, it doesn't try to tell a good story but instead tries to get you right into the action. So story is minimal here and if you are looking for a story game then I would recommend looking elsewhere (like maybe Fallout) Gameplay:This is where the game shines and makes itself something to remember 13 years later. You start the game in one of the episodes and blast your way through a semi-linear level to find various keys that unlock doors to progress and ultimately the nuke button (you hit it to end the level). The weapon arsenal is very unique; it ranges from a freeze-blaster to a shrink ray even to an expand-ray. Every weapon is balanced in such a way that it isn't rendered useless later in the game and is still a blast to use. Let us not forget the items which commend the game perfectly; you can use steroids to go much faster or a jetpack to fly around with. Presentation:This game is known for it's humor and that is another selling point. You can mow through a crowd of enemies just to hear duke say "I'm gonna go medieval on your asses" or "Eat shit and Die". With that said if you are one who is easily offended then this isn't the game for you. The levels have various adult themes like strip-clubs and bondage. Dukes lines also aren't the most clean but they are great for the theme of the game. On the topic of the theme the monsters are absolutely over the top. One fo them is a pig in a L.A.P.D shirt and another is a squid with 3 eyes that shoots energy balls at you. So if you want a game that is timeless and is considered a peice of art then don't be afraid to drop $6. I would gladly drop 10x that for this game because it's so awesome.

Descent 1+2

Great game but few minor flaws

This is one of those games that I remember playing as a child and had many good times with. I even played online a bit. When I saw these on GoG I bought them up in a hot-second and booted them up. Only problem is once I get it working and playing everything is fine until I get motion sickness. If you have a good tolerance to this sort of thing it is good, I never had the problem before but I cannot go playing these for very long without getting a bit sick. Regardless these are more than worth $3 a peice ($6 for the package) and I would recommend anyone looking for a good fps to pick these up.
