Reus

Not a god game per se

But a wonderful puzzle game really. It's all about combining tiles with "spells" and combinations to get the resources your towns want. Very engrossing. Very entertaining. Hours of fun to be had. Perfect on a Sunday afternoon with a cup of tea.

Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga

Arguably the greatest RPG ever made

Baldur's Gate hold a very special place in mine, and many other's hearts. It's a wonderful combination of character development, story telling and combat. I won't go into details of the story here because that is for you to uncover when you play the game, but to say the least it is wonderful told and you'll meet some memorable characters on your journey. Being a dungeons and dragon game it offers what you'd expect at the start. You pick your picture, your sex, your race (from human to halfling) and your class including all the fantasy archtypes, including mage, paladin, cleric and so forth. All play fairly uniquely to each other so there's plenty of replayability, which is enhanced by Human's capacity to duel class and non-Human's ability to multiclass. The combat is compelling, but fairly simple to one degree, click on your foe to attack. Mages and other spell casters have a tab you click on so you can pick your spells (which are prechosen by you). It's simple but can be challenging at times. Baldur's Gate is a tough game, especially in comparison to modern games. If you lose all sense of tactics and just rush your opponents it won't be long before you being cut to pieces. If your main character dies, it's game over. Luckily, you're not alone in this quest there are numbers of NPCs willing to join your cause, they span every race and every class in the game so really can find the party of 6 to suit you, if you can find them that is :). They all have a personality and there are some engaging conversations to be had with them and many other characters. Despite not being the prettiest game in the world, it's aged surprisingly well, aided by the classic isometric view giving a nice overview of your surroundings. All in all by buying this game you're embarking on a PC classic. It's sequel is superb too, so check that out too.
