I feel like Team Cherry painted themselves into a corner with this one. Release an easier, Hollow Knightier, version of this game and upset all of the people who want a thumb crushing marathon. Or release what we got, and please the Godmaster crew, at the expense of the casuals. The sad part is, if they had just marketed the game, instead of throwing it out, with little advanced notice, they could have pleased both: "Silksong! Like Hollow Knight, but with 75% more hand cramping!" Everyone knows where they fall on the game completion scale, and they could have made an informed decision. Having said that, I wanted to like, and do like, this game. I just know I will never complete it. So. The pros and cons: Pros: The game is every bit as beautiful and captivating as Hollow Knight. A joy to both the eyes and ears. Hornet is a blast to play. A regular quicksilver as opposed to our wandering knight. The controls are as responsive as the first, and MOST of her moves are a delight. The Price. Worth every penny of that $20. Even knowing I won't see quite a bit of it. I purchased Hollow Knight on three different platforms, and still felt like Team Cherry was under-pricing it. Cons: The lack of transparency about the difficulty of this game. Much more playtesting feedback would have solved this problem. Some of the call outs to the original game just seemed kind of unoriginal to me. Hmm. I got my maps in Hollow Knight by tracking down a humming bug in the area I was in, but in Silksong............................ There are others, and some people may have liked this nostalgia, but it just fell flat for me. So, is this a 1 star, or a 5 star game? Yes. Yes it is.
