It is a fun shooter, where you still have to take a lot of cover and peek around corners. (I WAS PLAYING ON HIGHEST DEFFICULTY). The weapons a a booming sound and the game is not buggy. There is one level though, that is frustating in the first part, because of a fog veil, with snipers lurking behind. IF YOU KNOW THEIR LOCATION, it can be done. You have just 2 free saves per level (on highest difficulty), which forces you to play with skill. Story is mediocre, but has one nice thing (The Shop). I can recommend it to player who aren't whinin' babies and need a bot to play the game for them, or any such disgraces (YES I'm RANTING !!!). No, for real, have fun the way you want to play!
I never played this game until now, though I had it back in the days. Well I started it then, but really played for about 30 minutes. NOW, some 15 years later (I don't know exactly when it came out), I like this game. It is more story driven then a pure open world sandbox game like elite dangerous, and by far less complex and such, but you have some liberty to do what you want. You can trade, bounty hunt etc. or be the bad guy. But I like, that it is more focused around a story, then beeing pure, "FIND YOUR OWN ADVENTURE". Don't get me wrong, YOU DO have liberties and are not forced to do things in a linear way, AND YOU DECIDE when to progress the story. MORE OR LESS at least. If you are looking for such a game, then have fun with it. IF you are looking for an elite dangerous like game, then don't. I recommend this game to anyone who loves space adventures.
I like the Adventure games from my childhodd, though I didn't play all, and Myst is one of those I missed out. To be honest it would have gone over my head at the time. Later I played Physikus and Amerzone, and I completed the latter without help. Myst is a great game, and I look forward to play the whole series soon. Highly recommended for any oldscool adventure fan. Maybe not for those, who don't like to use their head! :-)
Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive is in the vein of Commandos 2 and Robin Hood. ike the aforementioned, it is 2D Iso Style, which has some flaws. The art is great and far more beauteful in those games, then their 3D counterparts, because it has this handmade style. The controlls are flawed sometimes though. Sometimes it doubleclicks and therefore lets the charakter run instead of walk, which draws all attention to oneself (unwanted). Sometimes a shot, knifethrow, etc that would clearly hit in a 3D environment, if properly programmed, doesn't hit and so on. However, the game has a great style, good charakters and a well made atmosphere. All those games have, be it Robin Hood, Commandos 1, but especialy 2, and a bit less in 3. By the way, there was a game like those in 3D, which was called Korea:Forgotten Conflict, which I would love to have on GoG, since it was a masterful made game, with a very nice recording of action chains, to precisely sync. all charakters actions, I definitly recommend Desperados, and so I do the other mentioned games !!
I loved SWAT 3 and 4 since it release. It was always a real simulation of SWAT. Though the vanillia versions have their flaws, they're unrerached even in 2023 in what they are. People may compare it to Rainbow 6, but its very different and far more realistic in terms of SWAT play. Yeah I know that Rainbow Six is more on the counter terrorism side of things, but still. In SWAT, its all about arresting not killing if any possible. The story itself, and that is what is most important in a point 'n click adventure, is good to very good. The graphic style is difficult to see, at least for me, especially the font used is horrible. The voice acting is not convincing and could be far better. Most of the time it sounds like read in a way, a parent tells a tale to his child. I mean with a little drama, but still not convincing as an audio drama. But that too is really not so much of a problem, since the writing is ok and the story good, like I said before. BUT the whole game design is pure crap. Even a first timer in designing a P 'n C adventure game, would do it 100% better. The use of inventory and characters and all those clickable stuff is so tedious and ugly made. You have to ask every party member to follow you, otherwise they will stand where they are. BUT you need to do this every time you clicked on an interactive object, like a code panel ect. The logic of order of most puzzles is a joke. There could have been a more attendive gamelogic to recognize other, and most of the time even far more logical, solutions to a problem. Even in the early 90s, a lot of games had a far better game design and logic. (Not all though)! Its a shame to give this game 2 stars, since the story really hooked me. Games that did a fantastic job in design and story and voiceacting, fonts and visibilety are: Kathy Rains, Whisper of a machine, and Norco (though Norco had no voiceacting). Next I will play Gemii Rue, since I read other Wadjet Eye Games are great, said by people who didn't like Resonance because those very problems mentioned. Because of my experience I eally am sorry that I, for the first time in my (REVIEW-CARRIER) have to say: DON'T BUY
The style and story is great and so is the pace in which you investigate. The paths you can go are fun too. Voic acting is great and the visuals too. I highly recommend this game and also Kathy Rain and Norco, which have the same style and makers. The setting of a futuristic Nordic ( Scandinavian ) city was very interesti and uniqueng. Thanks to the Devs, for all your great games. Keep it up !! And continue to make such great games, please!
Oh how I loved to play this. For me it was a very atmospheric experience. Wonderful and thrilling, mysterious story and great voice acting and visuals. I also do recommend Whisper of a machine and Norco, which share Raw Fury and style, though some game mechanics are different in each, and Norco has no voice acting which is sad. Buy it, or better all three !! Puzzles are great and solvable. No frustration, at least for me.
Pronty reminds me a lot of Hollow Knight. Be it the way, secrets are made and found, sleep tanks ( Benches in Hollow Knight), Sparking gold to collect, instead of silver ( or so) in HK, even the Asthetics are on par with HK and also share a certain style. I loved Hollow Knight, and I do love Pronty in every way. It is a well made game on par with Hollow Knight and of course it has its unique style and everything. A highly recommendation from me, to all fans of Hollow Knight, and Metroidvanias. It may even be a game for "Finchis Welt", a german Youtuber who doesn't like Metroidvanias.( Regards from me :-) ). It may not be for gamers who want an easy unchallenging game, since this is hard on highest difficulty, which I always recommend for most games, since, come on, easymode?, ... Bahhh !! :-) And the price is really cheap for what you get, I would have paid 30 Euro, for that would be a worthy price tag for that game. So far I experienced no bugs ( maybe because it plays underwater and not in an underground world like Hollow Knight.) No, jokes aside, no bugs nor problems.
Seconds before, I reviewd Mothergunship, which I too highly recommend. And this game here is great too. The visuals are nice and shiny, though there is always air to improve ( I mean always in every game, in a purely logical sense). Music is a little bit distorted, though it could be a technical problem with my computer. There could be a little bit more feedback on hitting robots. But the gameloop is fantastic. It is also a rougelike game with a lot of perks and things. The weapons are customisable, but not in the way, Mothergunship does it, which is ok, since no game did or does weaponcustomisation like Mothergunship. I really do recommend both games to every FPS fan, especially if you want to try new things. Thank'ee Devs, you also did a very good an enjoyable game !!
