Leave it to GOG to release a version of Fallout 3 that ACTUALLY WORKS OUT OF THE BOX! This game was the main reason I wanted to build a Windows XP machine after fighting a losing battle to get the Steam release working, but with GOG's release, it runs on Windows 8.1 Pro with no issues at all. The inclusion of all the expansion packs is quite a meaty bonus as well. I simply can't praise GOG enough for going the extra mile by tuning up old games for modern systems before selling them on Galaxy, Valve could really learn a thing or two from these guys.

There is something about the simplicity and blistering pace of Quake III that makes it simply impossible to put down for more than 24 hours. You may only need a 15-30 minute fix, but I can assure you that you WILL be coming back at least once a day. GRAPHICS: The graphics bright and colourful, and can be tuned to run smoothly on just about anything. SOUND: Sound effects are good, and weapons sound just like you imagine they would. From the crunchy blast of a shotgun to the futuristic "pew pew" of a plasma gun, the weapons sound just as satisfying as they are to use. The announcer could have used a few more lines of dialogue if you ask me (I do appreciate him rating my performance, but hearing him say "excellent" will get pretty old after about the hundredth time). On a much more specific note, there is something oddly, extremely satisfying about the tinny crunch sound that plays whenever you pick up an Armor Shard. Seriously, look it up on YouTube! GAMEPLAY: This game is fast, Seriously fast. This game is chugging-an-entire-bottle-of-Mountain-Dew-and-then-setting-a-land-speed-record-in-a-Bugatti-Veyron-powered-by-Usain-Bolt's-sweat fast. Playing Quake III for just 20 minutes will give your eyes quite a workout, and all other shooters will seem like they're being played in slow motion after about a week of playing this. OVERALL: Do I recommend Quake III? FRICK YES I DO!!! Is $20 a fair price for a game this old, even though it's one of the best shooters ever made? Not at all, you should definitely wait until it goes on sale for $9.99.
