This was an original action game and very popular. It still provides a level of fun, but not nearly as serious as modern games. You only have two races to choose from - Orc and Humans. For the one-person game the strategy is always the same: defend until the enemy is exhausted, then attack. At game end, you have to search down every enemy unit -- peasant or hero -- before you can win. Can be really boring.
This game provides mutltiple scenarios at multiple difficulty levels, keeping it fresh. I liked it better than Heroes III. Autosave means you never lose more than one turn, even if the power goes down. GOG has provided an excellent platform to let it run naturally.
