I'm probably biased, as I grew up with this game, however, for me this is one of the best turn-based strategy games. Exploration, Economy, Diplomacy, turn-based combat in the perfect balance between complexity and essentials. While you progress thru 3 centuries you research new techs that, step by step, transform economy and combat. Every game develops differently with the random map generator.
