Diablo + Hellfire

It's Diablo, nothing more or less

Diablo is a fantastic title, I played hundreds of hours if not thousands of hours as a kid. I played Diablo 2 almost religiously when that came out too. Battle.net was the creme d'la creme of gameplay experiences. For nostalgia reasons alone I gladly pay the $13. It's nice to see that GOG and Blizzard have worked together to get Diablo 1 working on modern OSes, I hope they do the same for Warcraft 1 and 2. I can't say enough good about the game, but there's already hundreds of reviews on the internet, so I won't bother. However... This version of Diablo has two gameplay modes. There's Diablo and Diablo (Classic). In order to connect to B.Net to play Diablo you must play using Diablo (Classic). Part of that means you're playing in the 640x480 resolution of 1996. There is a renderer that works to display at 1080p, 1440p, 4k, has AA, AF, etc, etc... But to play multiplayer you have to give that all up and play in a faux SVGA mode. While the modernized version does have a multiplayer option, it's options that no one is going to be using. IPX (LAN), Modem, and Direct Cable Connection. I suppose with Hamachi or some such you can connect to people over the internet, but for the B.Net features you have to play the game in an intentionally inferior state. For that reason, I deduct 1 star. I hope that whomever was in charge reconsiders this awful decision.
