Final Vendetta

We got Final Fight at home

They want $25 for this game. Seriously... It's a standard fair beat 'em up that gets the core down, for the most part, but not much beyond that. There's all these little frustrating, "what were they thinking" kind of design issues. One is that they give you 24 different controller combinations instead of just letting you customize your controls. The controls menu doesn't even show that the triggers and shoulder buttons have vital moves assigned to them. It took me 15 minutes of gameplay before I accidentally found out you can dash, block, special combo and kick with them. There are too many none telegraphed attacks and stage traps. Also, even with the crowd control options, given how quickly enemies can swarm you with their barely any startup frame attacks it can get aggravating quickly. The most irritating part of the game is that enemies will often hit you outside of your lane where if you attempt to hit them, despite your sprite touching theirs, the hit won't register. Mercifully, the game is over pretty quickly. There are only six stages and the bosses are easy to cheese even on hard difficulty. Personally, I'm a quality over quantity kind of person but this game has neither and people who like bang for their buck will find the price tag insulting.

Gone Home

Nostalgia simulator

This is one of those "you can never go home again" indie games that's all about invoking the feels. I had the benefit of randomly plucking this out of my PS+ library and going into it with no expectations which possibly worked in it's favor as I later found out that there was a lot of controversy with how the game was marketed. While generally not a fan of walking simulators this one resonated with me. The game does heavily rely on being emotionally connected to the experience of being a kid in the 90's and if that's not you then it probably won't click the same way.
