The Pit: Mindgames, an actual review

As a full-fledged expansion pack to a respectable "Rogue-Like", Mindgames brings a new spell system and enough new features to give both old and new classes a distinct feel and playstyle. The "figure out the game yourself" approach is still there, which has its pros and cons, as you have full freedom over the development of your character and where you wish to explore, but no guidance or even in-game hints as to which path might be better and which choices will punish you. Speaking of punishment, expect alot of it as even Normal received a difficulty bump. Ultimately though, you will learn how to play properly a little more each time you perish, and the game has a decent wiki to help along with a great & active forum. With 10 extra floors and improved variations and dangers in each floors, starting a game in "Mindgames" feels more like going on an adventure than starting a short dungeon crawler session. If you still wish to preserve that "quick, short hack'n'shoot session" feeling however, the game does support that by allowing you to start in certain floors you have cleared before, with loot you stored for that purpose. If you're tired of the "medieval fantasy" theme but still crave for a punishing game with large replay value, both The Pit and it's expansion, Mindgames, are for you.
