Saya no Uta ~ The Song of Saya Director's Cut

Great VN. I don't recommend it, though.

First of all, if you're looking for a hentai VN, keep looking. Song of Saya does have a couple of sex scenes, but it's not porn. It's an utsuge, which roughly translates to "depressing game" and oh believe me, it will make you feel like crap. And you probably don't want that if you're looking for hentai. Or maybe you do, you weirdo. Anyways, Song of Saya was written by the notorious Gen "Urobutcher" Urobuchi and if by any chance you don't recognize and fear that name already, by the time you've finished Song of Saya, you probably will. True to the Urobutcher modus operandi, the game is really goddamn sad and bleak the whole way through, with the romance (because yes, Song of Saya is a love story) being essentially the only source of positivity. It also delves into some really heavy and dark subject matters, so you should probably avoid the game if you can't handle that stuff. All that being said, it's really well written. There's a reason as to why Song of Saya is regarded as one of the best horror visual novels out there. The OST is both hauntingly beautiful and disturbing, the perfect fit for the game it was made for. So if you can stomach a tragedy (or if you crave one for whatever reason) then Song of Saya should be a top pick. The best visual novel that I wish I never played.
