I played Diablo II when it first came out and spent so many hours playing and loving that game. So when I recently read a review saying that Torchlight II was a similarly fun action RPG, I bought Torchlight II - and I am loving it. The game has just the right combination of combat, customising weapons, and levelling up for me. It took very little instruction to understand the basic mechanics of the game, which meant that I was fully immersed in the game play within mere minutes. One of my favourite things about this game is the pet that you have accompanying your character. It's great fun having a warrior panda, dog, hawk or other animal fighting alongside of you. You can also pick up enhancements for your pet to upgrade its fighting capabilities. Plus you can load up your pet with items you've picked up and want to sell - you can then send your pet back to base to sell and buy a variety of potions, too. I really am loving this game.
I just bought this a few weeks ago, never having played any of the games from The Witcher series. I'm really enjoying the game. What really matters to me is having an immersive game and this game is delivering. The voice acting is good and occasionally somewhat amusing. And there are plenty of characters and quests to keep me busy. There is a fair amount of shuttling back and forth between non-player characters to get information or items from them, then heading off to pick something else up before heading back to so-and-so for yet more information. So there is a little more quest solving than I had expected and not quite enough combat. But I'm enjoying the game overall. I've probably been playing for about 30 hours and I'm into chapter 3 of the 9 chapters within the game. When The Witcher 2 is on sale, I'll probably buy that as well.
