Pros: - Original protagonists. Really i cannot remember many more games with a realisticly written bad protagonist that are not edgelords. - Plot and style. I love how the IO tried to rip off Tarantino. Dark humor, tragedy of Kane and 2 endings, both ,,grey" It's a brutal gangster/mercenary story and typical happy and would be out of place. Cons: - Everything else. Game works terribly on modern computers (or it's just my luck...). Keyboard and mouse controls are terrible unresponsive (play only with controller). The graphics is as mediocore as possible, first Gear of war, that came out year earlier looks in my opinion way better. Cover system is clunky, enemies are stupid and the guns have terrible recoil so you have big problems with hitting a target even with single shots. And many, many more problems... Verdict: I like this game. Really. But I don't reccomend playing it. Instead watch it on YT. Eventually give it a try on sales. But if you play and the clunky gameplay won't discourage you, I guarantee that this game will stay in your head. And I thing it means something.
I have a few hobbies and interests. The science-fiction and biology are one of them. I've grown wathching the original ,,Walking with dinosaurs", ,,Walking with beasts", ,,Alien planet" and much other shows like that. I love both Avatar movies and any other book, movie or game about biology, earth's or alien. And now I've played this experimental, document-style visoal novel about an alien whales that lives in symbiosis with a huge variety of other organisms, like living reefs. Dear Nathan, what can I say, except ,,Good job". I'm waiting for second episode with more info about your interesting ecosystem.
It"s not a review of game. It's more review of a GoG and his policy. I haven't played this game on steam, but i heard about her and really wanted to play. Unfortunately, before i've got computer that can run it, game dissapeared from the Gabe Newell's shop. I thought that all hopes are lost. But then GoG arrived and bringed Betrayer back. FOR FREE!!! I've received many really good games in your giveaways. Absolut Drift, Hellpoint, Dragonfall Trilogy and much more. But this is one of the best presents i've could ever wish. Thank you GoG, you're doing great job. And I'm really hopeful for more comebacks like this.
I don't know, why i bought this game. Really. Probably because of the low price. And the fact that it is a game-debut of the late Benoit Sokal And i really not regret it. This is a short, easy point&click game with beautiful artstyle, puzzles with logica solutions and simple but good story, that remains a family adventure movie watched by you with family in your childhood. Unfortunately, there's two objective issues (i don't count the shortness and simplicity, because something that be con for a veteran can be a pro for a newbie). First one is a wierd controls and saving system. You just jumps between some points and look for a cursor. If che changes shape, there's something to pick up, do or a way to go on. Saving system works excatly the same way. When you adapt, it works fine but getting used to this can be irritating. I have a theory, that the primary was the PS1 version, and PC version is just the simple port with only gamepad replaced with mouse (no graphic options, both versions looks the same and works the same, only difference is 60fps and lack of loading screens between locations on PC). The second one is a lack of subtitles and music. Finally, i can recommend this game with clear conscience. Enjoyable for all age groups, ideal for a first point&click game. And what's important, works perfectly fine on windows 10
Base game is really clunky. I know, it's not surprising for 20 years game, but when i played Spearhead, i could't believe, how many small improvements it added. Quicker animations, more weapons, better variety of missions, , better gunplay... in short military words, everything was improved. Breakthrough is visible worse, because his balance doesn't exist (in comparison to base game and Spearhead much less ammo and medkits, that makes game harder than it should be), but still offers more guns and mission variety than base game. My Suggestion? Play base game only if you have nostalgia or, like me, patience. Eventually you can skip it and play add-ons right away. They are really worth it
