Interesting settings, fun weapons, pretty good level design but could be less tedious. Not quite a Doom/Quake killer but maybe after playing the Black labyrinth I'll have a second opinion. Worth trying out
This might be my new favorite Western RPG since Skyrim and Mass Effect 2. The writing and characters are deep, the turn-based combat is some of the most enjoyable in the genre I have experienced, the music is out of this world, and the exploration and world building gives me the same feeling as a Zelda game. This game so earned all of its GOTY awards!
Controls are as smooth as Half Life 2, the story telling reminds me of Portal, there is even voice acting! It is also an immersive sim like Thief or Deus Ex where you can find shortcuts, lift almost every item in the game, and not even kill anyone. The weapon designs and the overall graphics may not look the best but that is why the game runs so well and you will be so busy shooting bad guys to even care. The boss fights are better than in Vanilla Quake for sure and look I forward to playing again on higher difficulties. Overall, if you are looking for a good FPS, add this to your collection! The game alone makes me more excited for Gloomwood and Ultrakill!
A much better game than Fallout 3 due to the better world, interesting quests, cool companions with 4 great expansions. Sure the graphics and gameplay are aged but mods make the gameplay and visuals more enjoyable. Plus this version is better for modding than the Steam version.
Sure the soundtrack isn't included but there are sources on steam with an easy guide on how to install and have it playing. Once that is out of the way, Quake becomes a fast, fun and furious lovecraftian FPS. Unlike Doom, Quake is more of a horror game set in a world where you travel between dimensions to stop an invasion. Once you are done with the main campaign, download Arcane Dimensions: the real best expansion for Quake that destroys most modern games!
I forgot to write a review because I was having too much fun playing this game. And that is after the expansions and all the side quests. Seriously this game rocks! CD Projekt RED, thank you for making this game and GOG and providing so many classic games without DRM, including the Witcher! Looking forward to Cyberpunk and anything else you have in the near future!
I never played this game back when it released and was a little skeptical about the graphics but that doesn't matter, this game is awesome! It may be a Dark Souls game in the form of an action game as it is challenging but not unfair. First off, the story and character interactions is partly where the game really shines. It reminds me of the Witcher 3 except in a futuristic, dystopian time. Every conversation has some hidden meaning and relevance to our modern time. The level design for each mission feels like part of an open world game like Fallout but it is actually more like Portal because you need to think to find ways to sneak inside a facility or get past guards. The controls were clunky (at first) but after playing around with all the cool weapons, gadgets and augmentations, you get a real idea of what to do. Also upgrading your weapon skills makes the aiming MUCH better. Overall, this game still holds up and may very well be the gold standard for immersive sims. If you want to know what 2020 and beyond is about and want to play a good Cyberpunk game, PLAY THIS!
I recently played this all the way through for the first and can happily say this is one of the best platformer games ever! It reminds me of the animated Tim Burton movies! For a game from 2005, the cutscenes and graphics all aged very well. Funny dialogue, fun psychic powers and great level design. Everyone should play this!
This game is amazing because it not only has a great story, complex dialogue choices, and rpg mechanics that keep this game replayable! Sure the graphics have aged but the combat animations work well as a Star Wars game, it has great music, the combat is not that bad when you adjust to it and has some memorable moments and characters. The only thing I would add is that the game alone doesn't support modern resolutions which makes some parts buggy when turning to fullscreen. But there are mods I found that fixed those issues and the game runs well enough to be enjoyed. I overall encourage everyone who loves Star Wars, RPGs or both to play this!
