The Outer Worlds

This isn't New Vegas and I'm glad for it

When the game first came out, one of the major criticisms was that it isn't Fallout: New Vegas. It's campier, way more on the nose with its critique of capitalism and the ending factions aren't really that fleshed out or interesting. It also suffers from a lack of diversity regarding enemies, weapons and armor. Going from Light Pistol MK1 to MK2 to MK3 during the game doesn't feel great for the sense of progress, and all armor being the same with different colour also makes the game feel less unique. But, once you start lapidating this rough stone, you'll find the gem inside. Companions are amazing. The science weapons are fantastic. The skill progression (every skill in the same tree reaches 50 before you need to choose one) is amazing and very intuitive, allowing players to use several different weapons, but specializing only in a few. The game also looks gorgeous. I don't think there's a single place I went that I thought "well, this is boring to look at" - even the greyest, darkest places are enhanced by their atmosphere and background, making everywhere feel like a liveable place (or not, and that's extremely on purpose). On the technical level, it has its stutters but it's very well optimized. Only in cities and very populated places I found my framerate dropping, or in intense combat. This game goes on sale for very cheap quite often, and I cannot recommend it enough.
