The Forgotten City

Literally racist propaganda

This is a mystery game with a white supremacist conspiracy theory as the answer. (Just because white people weren't there doesn't mean it was aliens!) The game starts off with an interesting premise, but grows more and more uncomfortable over time. I can overlook the occasional odd animation or camera angle, but not the central mystery devolving into racist nonsense. Dry exposition dumps are treated like a reward for the player doing a good job. The attitudes toward gay people are ahistorical. The portrayal of religious groups exaggerates similarities into all religions being interchangeable with modern, corporate Christianity. Galerius is a lovely himbo who stands out among an otherwise bland cast of characters. Overall the story seems less interested in actually exploring anthropology, history, religion, or philosophy and more in using those subjects as cudgels for edgy atheists to pwn the Christians.
