Fallout Tactics

Steam or GOG version?

The Steam version I have includes a combination of features from the official Interplay UK release v1.27 with Tactics Editor Tools from May 2001, a High Resolution patch by Matt “Mash” Wells from January 2009, and an admittedly quirky Steam Cloud synchronization for the bundle... which seems to have been curated in June 2014. Two free The Elder Scrolls games currently bundled through GGO may be worth paying another $10 (US) and comparing the two releases... I'll have to think about it a bit more. (Does GOG offer The Elder Scrolls instead of a modern resolution patch? Only clue I'm seeing is DirectX 9.0c in system requirements, so GOG may include a better patch!) I believe desertgamer may have just been impatient with Steam... didn't take the time to check the readme files and gave it an excessively bad review before checking other sources for fixes or workarounds. Their installer includes obsolete default fullscreen settings that tries to run 800 x 600 x 16-bit color-depth through DirectX 7! However, the sequence "Play Windowed (Workaround for Windows 8)" [Play] [Options] [Display] [Default] [Done] [Exit] will reset ".\SteamApps\Common\Fallout Tactics\core\bos.cfg" so all launcher modes should successfully run at 800 x 600 x 32 and other settings can then be changed through the in-game menus. Those confident to avoid typos can edit the config file directly, I recommend starting with the following three lines then experimenting with what else your specific PC can handle to get an appropriate balance of quality and performance: {display.bpp} = {32} {display.width} = {1024} {display.height} = {768}
