Decent but nothing more

Meh, it's decent at best honestly. I personally have the original physical CD copy and recently booted it again to give it a fair trial, as I've never truly got around it in 20 years (lol ikr?) My conclusion after at least 10 hours; It's serviceable, period. It does fine enough to stand on its own but don't expect much of anything spectacular from it. I personally cannot bring myself to keep playing it because of how messy and awkward it feels to play and control stuff mechanically, gameplay wise... The best way I could describe it is a watered down Walmart version of other bigger and better RTS and RPGs out there. Despite the graphics being somewhat charming and decent looking, both the gameplay and story aspects are unfortunately not as alluring... I get the nostalgia some may have for this game and I respect it, but for me the mechanics felt too frustratingly clunky to deal with and the campaign story and missions failed to keep me hooked as it is very generic. It doesn't try to go off the beaten path at all. The only part I found remotely intriguing enough is the "RPG" game mode. It's a nice single player kind of gameplay with some fun simple elements, but even then there are much better games out there that accomplish this sort of thing. Would I want to play an RTS/RPG mix, I would've gone for something like Spellforce instead. The only truly GOOD thing I found about it is that its soundtrack is simply beautiful to listen to, definitely one of the bests I've listened to out there. I wholeheartedly recommend getting this only while on it's on sale, if you're curious to try this one out.
