I wasn't around to play the games this is inspired by, but it has enough character, well written story and interesting combat for that to not matter. Heartily recommended.

Warbreeds is a lovely mess of a game. Yes, it is clunky and the pathfinding is really bad, but at the same time it has interesting looking factions and gameplay mechanics I haven't seen anywhere else. You build all units from gene pools, and can mix-and-match their parts to vary what you want them to do. Change out your heavy unit's lightning coils for rockets if you need to siege a base, or your scout's hammers for a kamikaze set to make your enemy regret cornering him.
