First and foremost, everyone should give the Devs a break, after all, you simply can not make a true sequel to a game without the original writers continuing their vision while utilizing the same engine they used in the original games E.g. Baldur's Gate 1 (1998), Planscape Torment (1999), Icewind Dale (2000), Baldur's Gate 2. Original Team Development: Bioware/Black Isle Publisher: Interplay Entertainment Engine: Infinity Engine With all that silly technical stuff out of the way, I have to say from what I've played so far the game is an excellent representation so far of the tabletop experience. Yes, there are mechanics that remind me of Divinity Original Sin, and yes there are musical pieces thrown in as hooks from some of the other epic game soundtracks like Dragon Age: Origins. Do these additions and or blends of worlds make for a "BAD" Baldur's Gate experience? No, as a matter of fact, they breathe new life and difficulty to the combat making it seem like a much more dangerous world to be in. In all the original games there was an unfortunate walk in the park campaign - get 2 Fighters a mage, a thief, and a cleric ( you can change it up by dual classing or multi-classing main chat for thieving duty and add 1 more Magic-user) BOOM, everything and all battles are won the game has no challenge. Right in the paragraph above gives you the problem with making a DIRECT sequel in the Bauldus Gate series. 2 main issues here, the limitations of Infinity Engine and D&D Ruel-set 2nd Edition. SO we have come to a crossroads I'd say. 1. Bring in a few key members of the original studio for direction using the strengths of Larian studios in making excellent (C)Rpg's and have yet another railroad-semi open world or: 2. Blend the strengths of Larians ability and pullBaldur's gate into a truly new direction and way of playing bringing us all back to the feeling when we first opened that Baldur's Gate box loaded up the 1st disk of 5 and waiting an hour to excitedly play. Lastly, it's not done there will be many bug fixes graphical updates story additions so be patient leave helpful reviews add some positives with your rants. remember these are people too and working very hard to make YOU happy with a great gaming experience! I'm sure I missed things but it was a lot in my head. Heck, be glad you can afford the game I play it at a friends house every once in a while and will have to wait for many moons till its bargain bin :D and wait I shall !!!
