Let me start by saying New Vegas is my favourite Fallout game. Anyway, Fallout 3 is a great game that's definitely worth playing. A lot of the Obsidian fanboys will blindly hate on this game, overlooking all the things it does well. Altough it has less depth as an RPG than New Vegas, something that Fallout 3 does very well is atmosphere. I feel kinda mixed on the big dumb green filter, but it does add to the atmosphere of a post nuclear wasteland and if you really don't like it there's a mod that removes it. The world is super fun to explore with many interesting locations, cool weapons and (generally) good DLC's. And lastly, without Fallout 3 paving the way we would never have had New Vegas. Also it crashes less than New Vegas for me, so that's nice.
