Have been playing since X2: The Threat. Very good evolution of the series. This does come from someone who is already a fan, so one thing to note is that the game is quite complex. Once you go trough the initial phase of learning the ropes, it can draw you in like some 4X strategy games.
It should tell you a lot, that the latest titles, in this franchise, are slowly re-introducing elements, already present, in this first game. Definitelly worth a pick-up, if you didn't play it yet. Do note, it has a steep learning curve, but oh so worth it, for the mechanics, the gameplay, and the story.
