This game is incredibly fun! I love that it is not straightforward, and many times you can puzzle your ways out of situations and you do not have to grind to get your characters ready for the next boss battle. I really enjoy the turn based combat and being able to play with a friend. We have given our characters opposite personalities and it has made the game an unpredictable blast! I took off one star because of the quest system. I like that there are no quest markers and you have to pay attention. I think forcing the player to pay attention further draws the player into the world and creates an immersive experience. The problem with this style is when the game is not clear what it wants in order to let you progress, and you end up losing hours trying to figure out an intuitive problem before looking at a FAQ. There were a few examples, but the big one was that you had to use the bloodstones before you could progress in the game. It was clear you needed them, but not clear that you had to use them. This stops you in your tracks fairly late in the game and ruined some of the great immersion the game had built up. That being said, I still really enjoyed this game, and recommend it to anyone who likes crpg's.
Ok, this was one of my favorite games, so I openly admit nastalgia plays a large part in how I feel. That being said, the game is undeniably buggy and needs the community patches in order to work optimally. That being said, the story still holds up, and is a deep adult story line. My biggest qualm is that I have not found a great way to map a controller to the game so I can play on my couch. Widescreen and gold patch: http://www.tessmage.com/forum/index.php/topic,58452.0.html That website also has an adult patch if you're looking for nudity. It's under the forums - downloads Camarilla overhaul - http://www.moddb.com/mods/vtmb-camarilla-edition This is a complete overhaul. I would recommend once you've beaten the game already to get more bang for your buck. There are a plethora of other mods and patches overhauling everything from resolution to sounds. This game is still supported by the community, but it should not cost so much for a 22 year old game.
