Door Kickers

micro-review

The game has character progression, custom inventories, level generator, map challenges, campaign mode, etc., but after a while I felt that I kept doing the same thing over and over again. While fun, it was *the same* fun, but please take into account that I have my personal biases. I don't think the game really excels in any regard and doesn't have anything too wrong with it either. Could've had deeper game mechanics. The game revolves around room clearing. Pros: nice graphic style. Cons: enemy AI, basic cover system. Rating: one flash-bang, many many stars. Recommendation: decent tactical strategy, so if you are into that, it's well worth a shot. https://pixelloot.com

Don't Starve

micro-review

From bees to shadows, everything will murder you. That's of course if you didn't already went insane or starved first. This game will not hold your hand, and while it might take it a bit too far, it will definitely provide you with a worthy challenge. Pros: cool atmosphere. Cons: very basic combat, you need a LOT of food. Rating: two weird rabbits fighting over a carrot with you. Recommendation: don't starve yourself to get this game but it's worth a shot. https://pixelloot.com

Shelter

micro-review

This game can bring nurture instincts that maybe you didn't even suspect you had. Only the thought of losing a cub can be heartbreaking. While some deaths are cheap, I didn't mind too much as, in my mind, it compensated for a lot of other stuff that can go wrong in the real life of animals but were not represented in game. Pros: touching experience. Cons: some deaths can feel cheap. Rating: five healthy baby badgers. Recommendation: for future badger mothers and everybody else. https://pixelloot.com

Spec Ops: The Line

Keeps you sucked in a devastated Dubai by offering a cool story, piece by piece. The game mechanics are pretty simple but good enough. Pros: story, the feel and look of the surrounding world. Rating: pocket sand right in the feels. https://pixelloot.com

To The Moon

Nice 4-5 hours long, touchy-feely story, with a side of humor. Cons: close to nonexistent game mechanics, boring and easy puzzles, very low resolution, can't easily full-screen. Rating: two origami bunnies with a dash of madness. Recommendation: if you're into visual novels, don't let the "Cons" dissuade you. https://pixelloot.com

Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut

micro-review

This game is a positive example of what can be done with what appears a relatively small budget. While this game doesn't have anything great it also doesn't have anything terribly wrong with it either, except maybe the battles that can feel tedious after a while. You also can't really take cover behind walls so you'll just end up standing awkwardly instead of having a nice field on view of the adjacent room. I didn't particularly liked the combination of fantasy and sci-fi but to each his own. I liked having a drone as a companion more than a dog, which says a lot about my soul :( Cons: dull combat. Rating: three fireballs because we ran out of bullets. https://pixelloot.com

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments

micro-review

Pros: you can make the wrong conclusions and arrest the wrong people, another step forward for the genre. Cons: difficulty only comes from the forced ambiguity of the situations, uninspired mini puzzle games (that you can skip), some longgggggg loading times, very hard to miss clues. Rating: enter cheat-code "waterboarding" to get to the truth (it might not always work and sometimes it breaks the game). Recommendation: nice game but the genre still needs to evolve. A must for the fans. https://pixelloot.com

Dishonored - Definitive Edition

micro-review

I strongly recommend playing it without killing anyone as an added challenge, although things might get personal sooner or later and you'll probably get the urge to murder a few people as you immerse yourself in the story. The game has a fantasy side and your abilities reflect that. For example you're going to be able to teleport short distances, slow time, possess small animals, turn foes to ash when killed to cover your tracks, and other supernatural abilities. The game has a few endings depending on how you handle things throughout your adventure. Pros: nice story that sucks you in a beautiful dark dark world, you don't need any DLCs. Cons: bit easy. Rating: one under-cooked rat, such is life... *Editors' Pick* https://pixelloot.com

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director’s Cut

micro-review

I strongly recommend playing the game without anyone dying by your hand (boss fights don't count) and without triggering any alarms, or the game might be too easy if you're looking for a challenge. The story is pretty good and you can approach levels in more than one way. Rating: We don't sell those kind of implants here, please move along. *Editors' Pick* https://pixelloot.com

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition Collector's Edition

micro-review

I liked everything in this game, from the graphics and soundtrack to the way the world is designed and game mechanics. On "hard" (the maximum) it is not difficult and neither well balanced; if you do all the quests you'll be ahead of your enemies most of the time with 1-2 levels and if your party is well made you won't have any real use for potions, special arrows or scrolls. You can make the game more challenging by not using any guides which might get pretty frustrating at times as some the puzzles are a bit counter-intuitive, you don't have a clear list of things that you need to do, and you don't have a clear crafting list (you just read books and you're supposed to remember the combinations/recipes or at least the books that was in to read it again). The game does not hold your hand which is pretty cool but it can also lead to frustration. UPDATE: "Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition" was announced and it's supposed to come with a ton of improvements, so I suggest you wait for it. Unfortunately the game might not get to be more challenging according to the devs. "There are many changes in the story-line including hours of extra end-game content. We’ve recorded voice-overs for each and every NPC dialog, added new quests and situations, and added new characters and game modes. And that’s not all; there are lots of new features that we will be talking about in the coming months!" Pros: soundtrack, world design, game mechanics, the stories, the quests, and more. Cons: highest difficulty is too easy, counter intuitive puzzles. Rating: three talking chickens. *Editors' Pick x2* https://pixelloot.com
