Still great after all those years. It takes some time to get used to the combat. Definatelly play in medium difficulty and don't try to hoard every item. Just take what you need and a couple more items as backup. Don't be afraid to regroup or drive the enemy in one direction as you sneak the other way. This game does a good job at making you feel like you're part of the game world. Love it.
I remember enjoying the game despite it's weird controls and this enhanced version makes them more bearable to play although you spend most of your time toggling between the interraction mode and the free look mode. Somethingh that was refined with it's sequel. The maze like level design gives it somewhat of a roguelite experience and you'll slowly be introduced to various mechanics like level security that unlocks hidden rooms among other things whenever you manage to reduce it. The music is atrocious but varies slightly depending on the location and situation. Still, i'd rather mute it to pay more attention to the ambient noises as some things can kill you without much notice. All in all, it's an interesting game but that any retro enthusiast should try but on modern systems i'd recomend instead either playing the sequel or the remake. Did you know, the sequel allows co-op play.
Needs the tool DS4Windows (quit Steam) to properly use a controller. Also grab the patch that unlocks widescreen on pcgamingwiki. The game has aged gracefully thanks to a soft image, physics with destructible elements, fancy lightshafts, water effects and particles. But more importantly, tigh controls and an excellent moveset for the prince that makes traversing levels a breeze and combat quite enjoyable despite being simplistic. The only downsides in my opinion are the huge enemy waves by the 50% mark that drag combat encounters for too long and some camera angles that can make it difficult to navigate. Definatelly a game worth revisiting once in a while.
While this is no Gothic 1 or 2, It captures what made them great and delivers on a smaller island yet, full of life and adventure. This game is hard, especially by Chapter 4, I could also have set the difficulty to a lower value but I wouldn't be satisfied with it and supposedly, normal difficulty is the intended experience. The game is also filled with weird quirks and bugs that require you to quick save every couple of minutes which wasn't the most fun thing i've done while playing. Anyway, the story is serviceable but the last chapter was a slog. I would have been satisfied to fight the boss by the end of chapter 3 but having to go back and revisit repetitive temples and fight hordes of those enemies was a huge pain and I had to rely on companions to give me a hand. That being said, I enjoyed the game a lot and spent most of my time exploring the Island only stoping from time to time to seek a trainer. I like how you start as a fragile nobody but slowly climb the social ladder of your chosen faction in order to advance the various plots.
