Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition

An absolute classic

First I beat this game on Steam, then Rocksteady removed the GFWL DRM breaking all savegames in the process, so I did the only reasonable thing, play it again. Then, out of the blue, it showed up on GoG and was an insta buy for me, and here I am, playing it yet again. Is really THAT good. It's true that after playing Arkham City, going back to Asylum feels weird, since you are missing so many moves, but I think both games complement each other perfectly. You have the more open world like experience in AC, where here is more like solving a maze, and while the gameplay in AC is supperior (I actually got all achievments in that game, all secrets, all challenges and everything), the story in Asylum is definitely supperior, and combined with the amazing atomsphere and the recording tapes, this is one of those games you just can't bring yourself to stop playing. A must play for sure.

Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered

It met my expectations

Of course I haven't finished any of the games yet, but so far, it's everything I was expecting. My biggest issue with the 1-3 remaster was the retro graphics, wich were far too pixelated for my taste, as I played it originally on PC, and the 60 fps was reduced to 30 fps but it didn't even feel like 30 fps, more like 20 due to some issue with the frame times (frames were not evenly spaced causing some feeling of low fps all the time). None of that is here. You can now choose wheter you want 30 or 60 fps for the retro graphics, and in both cases feels perfect. 30 fps feels consistent, and 60 fps feels super fluid. Sadly, this GOG release, much like the other remasters, lacks overlay integration, meaning when you get an achievement, you don't get notified. I really hope they can fix that this time, and also patch the 1-3 remaster with the same retro options. But overall, extremely satisfaied. This game was the first in a very long time that made me want to play it on day one, causing me to break my golden rule of never preorder... but hey I had the option of a refund if needed.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft

As good as it gets

This is everything I could ever want out of a remaster, in a nutshell. Gorgeous modern graphics, together with classic graphics, which you can swap on the fly btw, Modern controls together with classic controls, great performance and more. There are some criticism over censorship. It's just the back of a jacket, come on!. The modern controls are pretty useless indeed, since it doesn't let you jump back or to the sides, and running in a straight line is a bit difficult, so I don't even bother with them, but hey, is just an addition, a nice to have, you still have the classic controls available. If not a 5 stars game, then a 4.9 stars at least. Here is my suggestion to make it perfect: 1. Add the option for each game to restart the level, and let me replay any level I've already completed, without having to rely on save states. 2. Give me some graphics options. The game looks and runs great on both my desktop and laptop, but is always better to have them, specially if you can include a 60 fps mode for the classic look. 3. Improve the look of the FMVs. I've tried some remastered cut scenes made by fans in the originals, and they look WAY BETTER. And that's really it, sure removing the censorship would be cool in order to stay true to the original TR, but it's such a small thing I don't even care. All in all, magnificent release. Looking forward for the other games.

SENRAN KAGURA SHINOVI VERSUS

Too much text to read

I can't stand Visual Novels, so take that into account. When you look at the screenshots you see a cool hack n' slash game with nice anime girls, and that's what I wanted, but man is that missleading... you better have the patience to read or click through a bible worth of text before you get to any sort of gameplay here. I took me like 10 minutes before I got to control a character and it was just to select what to do next, after that, MORE DIALOGUE, and there is no way to skip it al togheter, you can only make it go faster by clicking, but is not fast enough. I wish I could ask for a refund but is too late for me. Bottomline, if you are interested, first check for some long let's play video or something, and not just the cool parts, to see what I'm talking about and then decide for yourself. Maybe is just me, but I think story in games should be told through gameplay. Sure a SHORT cutscene or dialogue here and there is fine, but not like this.

Batman: Arkham City - Game of the Year Edition

An absolute masterpiece

I'm not much into open world games, but this one got me, I guess because the city is not that huge so you can actually take your time with it, admire the amount of detail that went in it, and enjoy it, and boy I did. I went genuinely addicted to it. It's just so much fun to complete the main mission, side missions, challenges and everything else. I've played it so many times already, but having it now on GoG, DRM Free, was such a cool surprise that I had to start it again... and I'm sure that if I ever get the PS4 remastered version, I will want to play it yet again... I simply can't get enough of it. Absolutely recommended!!

Tomb Raider GOTY

Kind of a let down, but still enjoyed it

This is the only game I've ever preordered in my life. I was so hyped for this TR reboot, in a full island to explore, full of puzzles to solve and incredibly realistic graphics and animations. Well... the did deliver in that last part at least. The game holds your hand waaaay to much for my taste. Most notably for me was when you have to walk through a small bridge made of a single branch... there is a cutscene and all to emphasize how dangerous it is... It's not!! you cannot die there!! You can stand on that branch forever, Lara won't fall. Even if you try to fall, you won't. The only difficult section I found was the parachute section. That's it. There is a single puzzle at the very beginning that you must solve in order to progress. It's decent enough for being the first one. Makes you think you will encounter more (and harder) puzzles down the road.. you won't, from then on, every puzzle is optional, and your reward will be just experience points, which is disappointing to say the least. Oh and don't stand still for too long, or Lara will think you are an idiot and tell you the solution. The game is for the most part a third person shooter, because hey, is not what old TR fans want, but it's what the average Joe wants so... prepare to shoot A LOT, and don't worry about ammo, it grows on trees in this island. Like I said, it was a let down in many ways, but I still enjoyed. The story is interesting enough. Most areas, specially towards the end, are large enough that you do get a good feeling of exploration, and the graphics are damn gorgeous. Plus, it's the first TR game in a long time to not treat Lara as a femme fatale so kudos for that. It's a fun game, just not really a Tomb Raider game, and I was so happy to see it in GOG that I had to buy it right away

Commandos Ammo Pack

An absolute GEM!

I've put so so many hours into this gem back then... and I don't regret a bit. It's an amazing experience, just about anyone I know who tried it loved it, so I'm surprised this type of strategy games didn't get more popular. Is the kind of games that will make you feel frustrated quite often, for being able to get past some area, but once you acchive that, and beat the level, you feel like you are on top of the world. Sure, the expansion and sequel expanded upon this concept, and are objectibely better games, the original is still very challenging and well worth your time (and money).. just... prepare to die... a LOT.

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation + Chronicles

Good, but not great

If you want the classic Tomb Raider experience, I strongly suggest to stick to 1, 2 and 3. This two however... I have mixed feelings about them. A lot of people give too much praise to TR4 for being return to the roots, set entirely on Egypt, and about nothing but exploring ancient tombs. While that's true and good, for me, it doesn't feel like the originals at all. You don't get the Croft Manor this time, which served as tutorial level, and also as a place to mess around. The satisfaction of beating a level is gone, with level being more like liked areas, so no statistics and the end of each one. Some of this areas are massive, meaning a lot of backtracking if you don't know where to go first. It's just impossible to beat the game without a guide, let alone finding all of the secrets, speaking of which... you don't know how many are per level, so you will only know if you found them all at the end of the entire game, and your reward for finding all of them is.... NOTHING, NADA. Given how impossible it is to this, they should've at least give you and extra level. As for Chronicles, again, no Croft Manor, but at least this time the turorial is a section of the first level, with explanations in real time without interrupting you, and you can skip it entirely if you want. Also, no statistics at the end of each level, but at least can know how many secrets are if you found at least one, and there is a reward for finding them all. Its also more straight forward, never requiring to backtrack too much if you realize you are missing something. Each campaigns occur in different parts of the world giving some nice variety in scenarios. The first section feels absolutely like a classic tomb raider game, where the rest dives more into TR2 and TR3 territory, with the last level taken out of a James Bond Movie. All in all, a good package, but you should definetly play the first 3 first, and wait for a sale on this one.

Quake 4

A missunderstood gem

Back when this game came out, it was not well received. After the success of Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament, I guess people was hopping this game to continue the trend of multiplayer focused shooter, and instead they got "more of the same". Fast forward 16 years and if you are hopping for a "blast from the past", action focused shooter, mixed with some nice graphics, well, you are in for a ride. I bought it like 2 months ago, finished in Lieutenant difficulty, and it was such a blast, that I had to try it again, but in the General difficulty. It was just addicting for me. I finished the second time, and I will probably will play it a third time once I get an EAX sound card to get the absolute most out of it. As for what it is, well, it's Doom 3 but better I think. I enjoyed Doom 3 a lot back then, but it really feels for this game, they took note of everything people hated about that game. The lantern is now attached to the weapon, but only 2 of them which is annoying, the action takes off like right away, no wandering around unarmed for a good chunk of the first level. There is a great variety of enemies, and almost all of them will try to avoid your fire. And the biggest one for me, you fight alongside other marines, which will make your live a lot easier (specially medics and engineers), but if they die, that's fine, but will have to do all the job yourself. The only thing I think Doom is better at is story. Here is kind of there, but is basically an invasion to the enemiy planet to take on their leader. The game also looks pretty damn good, if you get the configuration right, but I recommend playing it on a 4:3 aspect ratio, for a more authentic experience (1400x1050 is what I used). Also DO NOT turn on antialiasing from the within the game, as it will hurt performance even on modern systems. Force it through your driver instead.
