This is the first time I gotten to play the original RE. I am a fan of this series, and have played almost every mainline game. Playing this game with the mindset of a newcomer, this game is both frustratingly difficult but also at times embarrasingly easy. Nevertheless, this games serves as a great foundation to this nearly 30 year old series. The classic controls are simple to understand and adapt to even if you only play modern games. This version runs and plays flawlessly, and I had a blast from beginning to end. My only gripes are that getting the true ending isn't clear without a guide, and there will be times where you will die due to the inability to do a quickturn or have any defenses (as added in later games). But most importantly, the game can still scare you despite the polygonal limitations of the PS1. Future RE games do improve tremendously from the original, but the original is still an enjoyable horror you can play today.
