Planescape: Torment

What can change the nature of a man?

For those who don't know yet, the review title is the single boiling question that is the heart of the ENTIRE game's story in Planescape Torment. I won't spoil anything, but this question is very deeply looked at in the story. Everything you do will effect the answer to this question. It is probably the best RPG on PC for a few very significant reasons. The story being the biggest. There is no game, no matter how great the gameplay, that has a story as rich and deep as this on the PC. And you have a lot of freedom in how you attack the experiences in the game. You can, in fact, get through the entire game without fighting in a single battle. Very few games offer this option. You can even defeat the final boss through dialogue should you choose. The different styles of play are so fun that it will offer a lot of replayability. If you love a good RPG, pick this game up NOW.

Ignoring Bugs: A Great Open Action RPG

Yes, everyone who knows about this game knows there's one big problem and we'll get that outta the way. Bugs. Since GOG's version fixes that, I wouldn't worry about that though. Regardless, you're going to experience a very fun RPG that has a large world to explore (I believe along the size of Oblivion's world, maybe a tad smaller) with lots of interesting factions to choose from and a lot of fun to be had. While it doesn't do it as well as Gothic 2, it still does it very well and it is very enjoyable. The gameplay will last you hours upon hours and you a lot of replayability. Pick this up if you're an ARPG fan, but I suggest starting from Gothic 1, then go to 2, then come to 3. Sure you can get what happened before hand in 3, but it's better to experience it all yourself. Especially since all three games are very fun.

Gothic

Fantastic Old School Action RPG

This was one of the first truly great Action RPGs I recall playing on the PC back when it came out. I had played Elder Scrolls games and while those were fun, to me the Gothic series was a superior game and series. The first and second in particular. The first game had such an interesting setting and, at the time, a pretty unique "hero" situation and a very fun world to run freely around with interesting spells to play with (turning into a maggot to sneak through things, hah) with fun monsters to fight and other great things to do. There was no real "right and wrong" just sides you could choose and the freedom to do virtually anything in the game. A lot of your choices effected how people felt about you and even going so far as to helping someone in a fight or not could go a long way. The combat system was also very interesting in that it wasn't a simple click to swing weapon like others where you'd just kinda run up and melee and try to move around to avoid being hit. No, you could actually control in which way your sword swung. While it was awkward to get used to, once you do, you'll find it enjoyable too I believe. While Gothic 2 is the best of the bunch, I'd recommend picking up Gothic 1 because it still holds up to being a really fun RPG with quite a bit of replayability to see what to do for different factions or try a different type of build for your character.
